According to different functions
It can be divided into two:
(1) DWR jacket: It usually is the waterproof jacket with only the function of Durable Water Repellent. The water droplets will not easily penetrate into the coated fabric surface, forming water droplets on the fabric surface. Therefore, this kind of jacket can only be worn in light rain.
(2) Waterproof jacket: It usually is the waterproof jacket with water pressure, which also with DWR. It generally refers to making a rubber base on the bottom of the fabric. It is divided into two types: coating and lamination. Most waterproof fabrics are laminated. This is the real waterproof and can be worn in heavy rain and snow without getting wet.

According to different fabric processing technologies
Waterproof PU coating
PU coat the back of fabric and the pores on the surface are closed to prevent water. Coated fabric processing can also be divided into dry coating and wet coating, which will make the fabric’s hand feeling different. Fabric is like human skin, moisture will make the skin firmer and more elastic, and wet coating will also make the fabric feel more comfortable. Compared with the two, the waterproof fabric with dry coating will be more like the skin of the elderly, while the waterproof fabric with wet coating will be more like the skin of the young.
Waterproof film
PU/TPU film always are bonded with other materials to form a composite fabric. Under the protection of the waterproof film, keep the inner layer dry.
The fabric with waterproof film will be more elastic and lighter than the fabric with waterproof coating. Waterproof fabric with PU film and TPU film is also called two-layer waterproof fabric. And another common three-layer waterproof fabric in the market is made of shell fabric/PU film/Tricot. The waterproof treatment of these fabrics will change the water pressure of the fabrics.
According to different taping processing technologies
Different taping including PU taping, TPU taping and rubber taping. It is usually used for side seams and cross seams of clothing to help the clothing achieve complete waterproof. The taping technology requires a high level of workers, who need to skillfully control the temperature, speed and stability of the taping. Poor taping will seriously affect the waterproof of jackets, and even water will seep into the seams.
The taping workers of Sky Swallow have more than 5 years of operation experience. Our water pressure for straight seams are at least 5000 MM, and that for cross seams are at least 4000 MM.

Because there are more than two pieces of fabric splicing at the cross seam, which is the most vulnerable position on the whole jacket, it must be reinforced again after a taping to ensure the adhesion of the sealing glue.)
Differences of waterproof jackets between waterproof fabric and DWR fabric
